Party Isn’t Over Yet: How To Wear Metallics Past Jan 1st
Metallics are a favourite of mine, it’s true. We’ve talked about them before, and this season, boy did they have their limelight. With the endless soirees, parties, discos and dances, they had their time to shine, for lack of a better phrase. But now as we arrive well-intentioned and bright-eyed into the new year, how do you make sure the joy-inducing shimmer of metallics doesn’t go to waste?
Fear not, disco queens. Metallics are well and truly a daytime thing now, thanks to style pioneers by the likes of Anna Della Russo, Yasmin Sewell, and more recently, the Hadids and Kendall Jenner. Here’s how to do it.
Lamé: This is a fabric we’re talking about here, and it’s the perfect combination of 80’s-nostalgia, sex, and French attitude. Wear a shimmery lamé blouse paired with flared denim and sneakers – swapping out your shoes for understated court heels and undoing a button or two for a night time look.
Painted Denim: if lamé isn’t your style, pair brushed silver jeans with an oversized tee. To avoid a Sass&Bide à la 2004 vibe, opt for a wide leg shape. Chuck on a pair of really beaten up sneakers or a chunky heel, depending on what side of the bed you got out of that morning.
Accessories Only: if your idea of a festive season is a fabulous glass of rosé with an even better book, add your metallics in after the fact. There’s nothing like a shimmery silver mule to lift an outfit – or, if you’re looking for something a little more fashion-forward, grab a silver acetate headband or gold resin hair clips. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but hair accessories are a thing again.
