Let’s Talk About: Refuting the Tuck-In Rule

Gone are the days when we were warned to not let our clothes wear us. Now, we demand pieces with extreme volume — garments with amounts of fabric so copious we’re swimming in our outfits. Think everything out of proportion: sloppy joes, anti-fit band tees, and oversized business shirts, worn with any manner of the baggy pants variety.

Taking it a step further, style icons far and wide have collectively realised the glory that is letting it all hang loose, to the point that now everyone is throwing previously spouted rules of shape and silhouettes out the window and are instead leaving everything untucked.

The thing is though, refuting the tuck-in rule when doing oversized separates creates a great silhouette. The movement created by silky, flowing culottes look great paired with a chunky jersey sweater — a look that can be dressed up with statement earrings and a sleek pair of pumps. Or consider a crisp white business shirt thrown over a pair of wide leg blue jeans with patent black boots and a red lip; a modern take on a classic combo, and a outfit to take you from nine to five, and beyond.

Can this collective movement away from waist cinching, skin-tight style simply be boiled down to everyone in fashion throwing in the towel and embracing comfortable clothing? Or is it just everyone trying to look like they’re not trying at all?

Doesn't matter. We're just thankful bandage dresses are done.
