Sami from With Jéan: A Conversation

Their sweetly nostalgic pieces have shot to the top of the must-have list for every fashion it-girl, and having just launched their new collection, it seems that nothing is getting in the way of the With Jéan girls. We caught up with Sami, one of the co-founders of the local Australian label to talk all things With Jéan.

1. Tell us about With Jéan - what is the brand's goal in fashion?

We initially started With Jéan based on the concept to find the perfect pieces to match with your denim, hence the name - With Jéan. We have grown so rapidly since we launched 8 months ago that we are now focusing on growing internationally and continuing to deliver individual pieces rather than collections every 60-90 days. The goal is to grow and maintain bringing in new styles that are as dreamy as the last and not compromising on quality.

2. What was it like starting a fashion business from scratch? Were there any key turning points where you'd felt like you'd gone to the next level?

For us starting a business was something we both had always wanted to do, we spent a whole year plotting our ideas with one another until we were set on With Jéan. We like to think we have a perfect combination of skills that gave us a head start into the online fashion world. We utilised our skills really well and made considered decisions, like outsourcing operations and logistics which allows us to focus on continuously growing our brand. There hasn't been a key turning point just yet, our growth has been fast and steady!

3. Where do your design ideas come from? What inspires you?

We work closely on our designs together, we gather inspiration from vintage wear, the classic European girl and have spent time watching old movies and reading through old books to find the tiniest of details we add to our pieces. The classic french girl from the 1960's will forever be an inspiration.

4. Who do you picture when you picture the With Jéan girl?

Any girl and every girl who owns a pair of vintage denim blues.

5. What's coming up for With Jéan? What can we expect?

We have just released our new pieces online which is now available for pre-order and is already selling faster than we imagined. We will be off to Europe in the coming months to work on some exciting things to come!
