Coming Around to Cowboy Boots: 5 Thoughts

Ever think you were going to be un-ironically googling “authentic cowboy boot dealers” during a lull at work? Yeah, me neither, and yet – here we are.

Slowly but surely, I’m coming around to the idea of cowboy boots. I’m not talking your classic cult-status Chloe Susanna Boots, or a classic white boot you can find on Asos or Shopbop. I’m talking full blown, support your local saddlery, seen a rodeo-or-two cowboy boots. That is the boot-vibe I’m getting at.

It all started when I was gifted a pair of high-heeled, bright red cowboy boots. I couldn’t say no to the present, but never in my wildest dreams would I spend money on a pair of boots like that. They stare out at me from my cupboard, and each time I look at them, the curiosity grows. Now, it comes to the point that I think – maybe I do like cowboy boots, and it’s just the vibrant, fire-engine red shade that I’m finding intimidating. Maybe cowboy boots are my next big purchase.

And so, here I am. Googling cowboy boots, rediscovering brands from my equestrian days like Ariat and Allen’s, consumer thoughts swirling.

Here are my top five:

1. I feel like Ted Moseby stomping around in his red cowboy boots arguing with everyone that he was “Pulling Them Off.” Do I really want to be Ted Moseby? Not really.

2. Wow, there’s an article on the National Geographic about buying cowboy boots. According to said article, there are different types of Cowboy Toes - square, pointed, and rounded – and not everyone can wear each type of toe. Go figure.

3. *Makes mental note about writing article about how to find your type of toe to match your style personality. *

4. Apparently you should always go a size down?

5. There is a serious macho-pride culture around a pair of authentic cowboy boots. They’re probably not super keen that we’re taking it from the ranch and pairing it with frilly little dresses and the like.
